State of Canadian Pacific Salmon: Responses to Changing Climate and Habitats

This report presents the first high-level overview of Canadian Pacific salmon responses to a rapidly changing world, and provides a foundation for further detailed work required to assess the vulnerability of salmon populations. Here we compile observations, and expert opinion, contributed by DFO Science staff working on the different salmon life-stages and ecosystems, during a meeting held in Nanaimo, B.C., May 15-16, 2018. References are also provided where readily available. Results from this science process provide the first integrated overview of B.C./Yukon Pacific salmon and ecosystems changes observed during the recent period of notable warming and longer term habitat alteration. This report does not represent an exhaustive literature review, and the contents of this report have not gone through a formal peer review process. Instead it provides a starting point for future work that will expand on the observations presented, through data compilation, analyses, and the integration of expert judgement.
