Spring Creek Habitat Restoration Project

The Spring Creek Habitat Restoration Project was initiated under the Habitat Restoration Salmonid Enhancement Program to develop or improve coho salmon habitat in the Spring Creek Watershed. Spring creek has been altered from its original condition mainly through timber harvesting and urban/rural encroachment, resulting in increased sediment loading, failing banks, lack of mature conifers as riparian vegetation, lack of LWD in stream and obstructions to migration, such as perched culverts. Four sites underwent in-stream restoration works including the provision of improved fish access and improved spawning and rearing areas. The project also included watershed stewardship initiatives.
