The 2006 Cranberry River Fish Passage-Culvert...
Aimed to identify culvert structures within the Cranberry River Watershed that could impede fish movement upstream. Fish activity was monitored in mid June and again in September. At each of the 70 sites, data was collected on the geographical location, crossing structure characteristics, fish habitat quality, and fish usage. Culverts were measured for dimensions, flow rate, slope, and outflow drop. Streams were measured for flow rate, gradient, habitat quality, and pool depth at outflow. Sites were ranked based on these qualities. 6 culverts were identified as being full or partial barriers. Recommended deactivation of non essential roads, maintenance of existing roads (implementation of bridges/open bottom culverts), increased stream crossing standards for future roads, and completion of a fish distribution survey.
