A Preliminary Evaluation of the Environmental Impact of Mining, Community Development and Logging activities on the Water Quality of Babine Lake

An ecological study to assess the impact of environmental changes on the Babine sockeye production is currently being conducted under the auspices of the Babine Watershed Change Program. Specifically the Environmental Quality Unit of the Northern Operations Branch, Fisheries Service, is charged with the responsibility to measure the change in quantity and quality of water and solids entering Babine Lake from mining, community and recreational developments and logging activities. This report briefly reviews the industrial and community facilities and reports on the surveys conducted by the E.Q. Unit in 1972. The study area was restricted primarily to the central basin of the lake between Topley Landing and Noranda Copper.
